Suggestions Please!

I am really hoping you can all help me!  As you can see one of my bookshelves is in terrible disarray.  My problem is I make up my mind to organize it alphabetically and then get half way through and don't like it so I start over by organizing it by genre.  Then I get in trouble because some of my authors can be of multiple genres.  So now an hour later I have accomplished nothing but the realization that I may be a little OCD when it comes to organizing my most prized possessions.  How do all of you organize your books?  Should I do it by author, genre, or go a little wild and organize it by vampire, faery, shifter, etc (and then what do I do if the book has both?!?).  The second part of this is do I separate my adult books from my young adult?  I'll include a few pics of the actual books on my shelf so you get an idea of what I read (if you haven't kinda got a bit of an impression from my blog already!).  Lastly should soft cover be separated by hardcover?  Also feel free to just tell me I am crazy haha I promise I won't take offense.

I usually sort:

A) by author
B) by series - chronological does not matter in this instance

The last shelf is usually for the authors that I only have one or two books from and are standalone novels.

I could do series with a shelf for ya and one for adult...hmmm thanks for your suggestion!

That's a hard one ! I would say maybe I would organize it by genre. I get a little OCD about things like that too and end up overthinking it !!

I really want to do it by genre but then I have to make big decisions, such as, should Laurell K Hamilton be Horror (as it is shelved at Chapters) or by Urban Fantasy? I am giving it 24hr to make up my mind.

Thanks for another good suggestion!

You could always try sorting by color and then it would be pleasing to the eye.

I'm afraid I'm not much help in this area. My poor book shelf is just a mess in itself. I tried organizing in one way. Now I have books everywhere because I just can't decide what to do either. I think I will eventually get my own system when I get bigger shelves to work with. But for now I just look like a complete mess. lol. Good luck to you!

Right now I have one big bookshelf and three smaller wall shelves and about 10 boxes of books in my basement (I actually went through all my books and decided which ones could be sent to the used book store where they will give me 10% of the book price to spend on more books!)but I have this vision of having a room in my house where the walls are 100% covered in book shelves! Oh what a dream come true that would be!

Hahaha I love it! I think a lot of "book junkies" are horrible at organizing our books. I value them so much so I feel kinda bad but there are just so many!!

I'm going to sound like a nut, but I organize by color. I keep all the series together. They have to be together. But I organize by color. I'm a Capricorn. We organize things. Color seems a good way to go for me.
